Ace producer Dil Raju has forayed into Tamil cinema now with Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s “Varissu” which will be released as “Varasudu” in Telugu the day after tomorrow. Though some critics and film enthusiasts claimed that the film got an unanimous blockbuster talk all over Tamilnadu, the first day collections of the movie are showcasing something else now. Guess what, the film has failed to touch the first day collections of Vijay’s last five big movies.
If we look at the worldwide gross clocked by Varissu (Tamil version) on its Day 1, the film collected nearly ₹46+ crores. However, Vijay’s previous film, which flopped disastrously, “Beast” has collected ₹87 crores gross on its release day. Similarly, the likes of Master (₹54 Cr), Sarkar (₹71 Cr), Bigil (₹67 Cr) and Mersal (₹50 Cr) collected above 50 crores gross on their Day 1. One wonders why Vaarisu failed to touch the glorious 50 crores mark, but then, one has to blame the content only.
Apparently, the trailer of Vaarisu hasn’t impressed Vijay’s fans and other neutral movie lovers as it happens to be a simple family drama that was seen multiple times through many Telugu movies whose dubbed versions are seen on the Tamil small screen. That led to a poor talk in the afternoon, and theatres got emptied by the night. However, the Sankranthi holiday season might help the film post big numbers even with this mixed talk.
Directed by Telugu filmmaker Vamsi Paidipally, Vaarisu has Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead, while Telugu hero Srikanth played a crucial character role in the movie.
