Our own native beat, Naatu Naatu winning an Oscar is a very proud moment for all Telugus across the world. Naatu Naatu being performed by the original singers, and receiving a standing ovation was all like a dream. Music composer Keeravani and lyricist Chandrabose winning the award is beyond that. But, particularly for the Naatu Naatu song, another person should be equally felicitated or he should be getting the actual credit!
He is the dance choreographer Prem Rakshith. True that Keeravani composed a wonderful tune and Chandrabose blended the perfect words into it, but Naatu Naatu is what it is today because it visually enthralled millions of the world audience. One has to admit that the shuffle steps in the song composed by Prem Rakshith left the people mesmerized, more than what the beat and lyrics did. Ram Charan and NTR slay the dance movements in perfect sync and the grace in their dance is what earned the fans for the song.
Unfortunately, the Academy Awards will be presenting the Best Original Song award to the Music composer and the lyricist. The original songs that get nominated for Oscars are usually from world-famous pop singers like Rihanna, Taylor Swift, or Lady Gaga whose music and lyrics are mainly focused, but Naatu Naatu is an exception from the usual.
The Oscars might have presented the prestigious award to just Keeravani and Chandrabose as per their rules, but Rajamouli’s visualization, Charan, and NTR’s dance also helped it bring the golden statuette home. Above all, Prem Rakshith for choreographing a visual treat of Naatu Naatu for what has reached unexpected levels is also an Oscar winner for us!
