‘Kamma’ Nandi Award, So I Rejected It: Posani

Writer turned actor Posani Krishna Murali is blunt when it comes to expressing his opinion be it on any issue or person. Yet again Posani’s comments created a storm and this time he took up the topic of Nandi awards. He stated that money power decides the winners of Nandi awards and the caste card doesn’t work.

“There is no domination of the Kamma community and Kapu community in the film industry but only money dominates here. Many directors and producers lost their respect while deciding the winners of Nandi awards. Before announcing the winners, there will be demands from different camps. Then we have directors who insist on getting awards to compete with his contemporaries and some throw tantrums, if they are not awarded,” said Posani.

On the Nandi awards panel, Posani added that out of the 12 judges, 11 of them represent one community (Kamma) and there is nothing wrong in it. “I’m a Kamma too but the film industry doesn’t belong to any individual or community. Here the deciding factor is money power,” stated Posani.

The actor also found fault with the Nandi panel that decides the winners. “I was announced as the winner for my performance in Jr NTR’s ‘TEMPER.’ But I rejected the award, since I feel it as ‘Kamma’ Nandi award. Before turning into an actor, I was a writer and was part of blockbusters like Pavitra Bandham, Pelli Chesukundam and others. But I received no award yet I fought for a couple of writers who deserved awards. I was abused for demanding justice,” stated Posani.

This is for the first time Posani commented on Nandi awards after he was appointed as the chairman of Andhra Pradesh Film Development Corporation by the AP government. Well, everyone knows that awards are just a gamble and every time the winners are announced, a controversy emerges.
