Telugu Stars Scoring Super Hits With ‘Rooted’ Cinema

Generally, Telugu stars show reluctance in doing rooted scripts and realistic films like Tamil heroes. But the trend is changing. Our star heroes are now preferring to do rooted stories with necessary commercial elements. As a result, we are witnessing blockbusters from Andhra, Rayalaseema and Telangana.

It all started with Ram Charan’s Rangasthalam. This 2018 period action drama was a trendsetter. Director Sukumar needs to be appreciated for convincing Charan to take up this kind of subject which is set in Coastal Andhra and deals with caste politics. Charan gave a phenomenal performance and also spoke in the local accent to suit the role.

Then, Sukumar continued the tradition with Pushpa. Starring Allu Arjun in the lead role, this film deals with the red sandalwood smuggling that happens in the Seshachalam hills of the Rayalaseema region. Bunny played the role of a smuggler and impressed everyone with Chittoor slang. The film was a blockbuster across India.

Now, Sukumar’s assistant Srikanth Odela came up with a rooted script from Telangana. We are talking about Dasara, which is having a sensational run at the box office. Starring Nani and Keerthy Suresh in the lead roles, Dasara is set in the Singareni coal mines backdrop. Nani impressed everyone with his Telangana dialect and the rooted nature of the film played a huge role in its success. It will also end up as the biggest hit in Nani’s career.

The successes of Rangasthalam, Pushpa, and Dasara will inspire many other filmmakers to come up with such rooted scripts. So, we can see many more rooted movies set in various regions of Telugu states, in the coming days.
