Drishyam Goes To Korea Now!

Several Tollywood films, such as Samantha’s Oh! Baby’ and Regina Cassandra’s Saakini Daakini, have been remade with the help of Korean producers in recent years, mirroring the trend of South Korean movies being adapted into Telugu. And it looks like the trend is going to reverse.

South Indian films have achieved the ultimate success with the runaway hit “Drishyam” franchise. This movie reaped a huge box office collection domestically, in Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Tamil languages.

But its success did not stop here – it is now set to be remade in South Korea! It’s no secret that for years we’ve been inspired by Korean cinema, and now one of our movies will inspire them! The Indian film industry certainly has something to celebrate about this major milestone.

Korean viewers often prefer romantic and thriller films, so it is no surprise that the 2013 Malayalam movie Drishyam received much attention. Written and directed by Jeethu Joseph, its success inspired remakes in Kannada (“Drishya” 2014), Telugu (“Drushyam” 2014), Tamil (“Papanasam” 2015), and Hindi (“Drishyam” 2015).

At the India Pavilion during the ongoing Cannes Film Festival, it was announced that the Drishyam franchise is being made into Korean now.
