Charan, Tarak and others to become Academy members

The Academy of Motion Pictures and Arts recently announced its new list of 398 members for this year. Alongside international stars like Taylor Swift and Ke Huy Qwan, several Indian personalities NTR Jr, Ram Charan, MM Keeravani, Chandrabose, Karan Johar, and others have also been included.

Other Indian names are Siddharth Roy Kapur, Mani Ratnam, Sabu Cyril, KK Senthil Kumar, Shaunak Sen, and Chaitanya Tamhane.

Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang expressed their pride in welcoming these artists and professionals, highlighting their global talent and significant contributions to the arts and sciences of motion pictures.

This year, the number of new members is about half of the previous years as the Academy has scaled back its invitations after taking steps to increase the representation of women and non-white members.

Being a member of the Academy grants these individuals voting rights at future Oscars. Currently, the Academy has over 10,000 members, and if all the invited individuals accept this year’s invitation, the total membership will rise to 10,817, with 9,375 eligible to vote.
