Tamil actor Nasser has clarified the recent controversy surrounding the claim that only Tamil artists can perform in the film industry. The issue arose when the Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) introduced new rules stating that Tamil films must employ only Tamil artists.
Nasser’s statement comes after Telugu actor Pawan Kalyan’s call for a more inclusive approach, emphasizing the need to think beyond narrow mindsets and promote a collaborative spirit in the film industry.
The veteran actor urged the film fraternity not to take the misinterpretation of the rule seriously. He emphasized the importance of working together to create great films that can resonate globally.
In a 2-minute video, Nasser asserted that the film industry is now in an era of pan-Indian and global films, where actors and talent from different language industries are increasingly involved. He clarified that the rule introduced by Mr. Selvamani, the head of FEFSI, specifically aims to safeguard workers’ interests within Tamil Nadu’s boundaries and does not apply to actors and other talent.
Nasser also highlighted Tamil Nadu’s rich history of welcoming actors and talent from other language industries. He mentioned iconic figures like SV Ranga Rao and Savitri, who were from different linguistic backgrounds but were wholeheartedly embraced and loved by the Tamil industry.
