Most of the Tamil audience expected recognition of the films “Jai Bhim,” “Karnan,” and “Sarpatta Parambarai.” Regrettably, these highly anticipated films fell short of the anticipated accolades, disillusioning fans and enthusiasts.
The previous year’s victory of Suriya for Best Actor in “Soorarai Pottru” had elevated expectations, making many hopeful about similar accomplishments for “Jai Bhim.”
Similarly, “Karnan,” directed by Mari Selvaraj and starring Dhanush, delved into powerful themes surrounding the struggles of an oppressed community. The industry and its followers had expected these films to garner significant recognition. Dhanush earlier bagged an award for a similar film.
Meanwhile, the absence of accolades for Pa Ranjith’s “Sarpatta Parambarai,” which vividly depicted the cultural landscape of north Madras, further contributed to the prevailing sentiment of letdown. Despite captivating performances, compelling screenplay, and impactful music, the movie did not find its place on the awards list.
Amidst the disappointment, there was a ray of hope with “Kadaisi Vivasayi” being honored as the Best Tamil Film and a special mention for its lead actor, Nallandi. The discontent among passionate followers of Tamil cinema has been widely expressed on various social media platforms.
