In recent months, there has been a distressing trend among some Telugu film enthusiasts who have been relentlessly criticizing prominent Telugu music directors such as SS Thaman and Devi Sri Prasad.
While their recent work might have slightly deviated from certain expectations, the excessive trolling has led to unintended consequences. Often, we readily laud composers from other languages while failing to shower the same level of appreciation for our own talents.
In a fitting response to such unwarranted criticism, two eminent composers have eloquently demonstrated their prowess by clinching the “Best Music Direction” awards at the esteemed 69th National Awards.
Devi Sri Prasad’s recognition for his contribution to the ‘songs’ of “Pushpa: The Rise” and MM Keeravani’s triumph for his background score in “RRR” not only validates their musical brilliance but also highlights how their compositions have resonated across the entire nation. It’s worth mentioning that DSP also composed the music for the winner of the “Best Regional Film (Telugu),” which happens to be “Uppena.”
In light of this, it’s high time we acknowledge the detrimental impact of demeaning the work of our own composers while excessively applauding talents from other regions. It’s imperative to grant these gifted composers the opportunity to continually rise and exhibit their artistic prowess.
Every new film they undertake becomes a platform for them to reaffirm their capabilities, and we should extend our support and patience in allowing them to do so.
