Khaidi Completes 40 Years: Megastar Gets Nostalgic

Back in 1983, when director A Kodanda Ramireddy wanted to make a film that was loosely based on the Hollywood film “First Blood”, he first thought of Krishna as the lead, but then the superstar rejected it. With a couple of other rejections, finally, he found the rising young hero Chiranjeevi fit for the role, and the rest is history. Guess what, Superstar Krishna gave the first clap for the film.

Released on Oct 28th of the same year, it marks the film’s 40th anniversary today. With Khaidi turning out to be a mega-successful film at the box office, Chiranjeevi is named the new action hero, and from there he went on to become the numero uno star of the Telugu film industry. Even for Khaidi, Megastar charged nearly ₹2 lacs as his remuneration, and that was a sensation at that time. “Khaidi is not just a sensation, but also a big turning point in my career. It made me a lifetime prisoner in the hearts of the Telugu audience” wrote Chiru, as he gets nostalgic about the film completing 40 years of release.

Megastar thanked the likes of director A Kodanda Ramireddy, producers, co-stars Madhavi and Sumalatha, as he says, #4DecadesForKhaidi, #40YearsOfKhaidi and much more. More than Megastar’s serious looks and dances in songs, the film also turned out to be a blue book to cook action films in Tollywood for a decade or so.
