Did Thaman Pay For “Kurchi Madathapetti”?

The catchy song “Kurchi Madathapetti” from Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram has taken the internet by storm, but its origins and ownership have become embroiled in controversy. Accusations against music director Thaman for allegedly using the lines without proper credit have reached a different level, with trollers chasing Thaman. Here’s an interesting revelation, however.

Kurchi Madathapetti, a phrase popularized by an unknown elderly man in a viral video, became a meme and later found its way into Thaman’s composition for the Telugu film “Guntur Kaaram”. This sparked outrage among some netizens who felt Thaman had appropriated the man’s work without due recognition.

However, amidst the accusations, sources close to Thaman have revealed that he had, in fact, paid the man a sum of ₹1 lakh for the right to use the phrase. However, the twist is that the old man who phrased it, initially agreed that he got ₹1 lakh paid while speaking to one YouTube channel, but later said that he got only ₹5000 paid. One wonders how much he actually got paid anyway.

The virality and impact of “Kurchi Madathapetti” continue to impress the masses as the spicy number featuring a ‘naatu’ dance from Mahesh and Sreeleela became a talked about thing. The song’s lyrical video clocked 14+ million views so far after its YouTube debut.
