Legendary Sp Balasubrahmanyam’s son SP Charan moves court against the movie director Tharun Bhascker.
SP Charan filed a case against the director for using SP Balasubrahmayam’s voice generated using Artificial Intelligence in the director’s latest work, Keeda Cola. Charan alleges that his father’s voice in the movie was an unauthorized recreation.
Charan’s lawyer Kavitha Deenadayalan mentions that her client has no issue when fans recreate the legendary singer’s voice using AI, but when it is used for films or to earn money, the prior permission must be taken and the credits be given to the singer.
The petitioner seeks an apology, 1 crore rupees towards damages, and a royalty share. This is reportedly the first case filed against the unlawful use of AI-generated voices of late singers.
Recently, famous musician AR Rahman recreated the voices of two iconic singers Shahul Hameed and Bamba Bakya for Lal Salaam. He got permission from their families and also credited them for their films.
The story of Keeda Cola revolves around suing a company and demanding compensation for the damages. Unfortunately, the movie director is facing the same issue.
