The Malayalam film industry is the pioneer of delivering content-oriented films in Indian cinema. No other film industry in the country makes as many interesting films of various genres as Mollywood does.
This makes people think that the Malayalam film industry would not have box-office pressure like other film industries.
However, actor Prithviraj Sukumaran disagrees with the statement and affirms that even they have box-office pressure. He made similar statements in the past and stood by his words in a recent interview.
In an interview with India Today Digital, Prithviraj said, “No. Box office is important for us, too. We also have a lot of pressure to deliver numbers and ensure films are financially viable.
But we must be hugely thankful to the audience of Malayalam cinema, who have unequivocally told us in very clear terms that bad films will not get numbers.” However, Prithviraj said that the industry is grateful to the audience who encourages good content irrespective of the directors or lead actors.
He believes that one should stay true to the craft and the audience will definitely lap up if the content is good. He is currently busy with the promotions of his next directorial, L2E: Empuraan, featuring Mohanlal in the lead role.
The film is slated for a worldwide release on March 27.
