Raja Saab Struggling to Perform in the Hindi Belt?

Pan-India superstar Prabhas enjoys a strong pull in North India besides his massive popularity down South. After Baahubali, most of films irrespective of public talk took a solid opening at the Bollywood box office. But, his latest film The Raja Saab did not live up to the trade expectations and registered dismal numbers in North India in the just concluded opening weekend.

After an underwhelming start with just 6 Crores net on the first day, the film failed to gain any momentum during the weekend due to poor word of mouth and below par online reviews. On Saturday, there is a considerable drop in numbers with 5 Crores net in North belt. The collections saw a further dip on Sunday to end the crucial first weekend on a disappointing note with the first three day net lingering around 15 Crores.

This is the second lowest ever opening for Prabhas since Baahubali. The performance of The Raja Saab is close to that of his disaster film Radheshyam. The horror thriller needs 75 Crores net from Hindi version alone to be termed as a safe venture for its buyers. Going by the opening weekend’s performance, The Raja Saab stares at a huge deficit in North India because there will be no Sankranti festival advantage unlike South market.

Despite having no competition from other films, The Raja Saab failed to register promising numbers in Hindi market. With still some steam left in Dhurandhar, it only gets tougher for The Raja Saab to achieve break even status. The film grossed over 100 Crores on the first day worldwide and witnessed a sharp drop on Saturday and Sunday because of the mixed reports. In Telugu states, the film is hoping for a big boost in numbers during the festival season.

Directed by Maruthi The Raja Saab stars Sanjay Dutt, Malavika Mohanan, Riddhi Kumar, Nidhhi Agerwal and Zarina Wahab in crucial roles.
