Popular Assamese singer-songwriter Zubeen Garg’s death mystery is striking headlines across the nation. He passed away in September last year, and reportedly, he declined to wear a life jacket before drowning during a yacht party that took place in Singapore.
There have been many speculations surrounding his death. However, the official report confirms that Garg initially wore a life jacket while swimming. However, he removed it and declined a second. Garg entered the water alone without a life jacket and attempted to swim toward Lazarus Island, where he was later seen floating face down.
Garg was rescued, and CPR was administered. But he was pronounced dead the same day. An autopsy confirmed drowning as the cause of death. Toxicology reports showed severe alcohol intoxication, with a blood alcohol level indicating impaired coordination.
Garg had a medical history of hypertension and epilepsy. It currently remains unclear if he had taken his medication. Singapore police have ruled out foul play, while an SIT in Assam continues to probe the case.
It remains to be seen how Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who recently stated that Zubeen Garg was killed, will react to the official findings released by Singapore police.
With the investigation ruling out any foul play and confirming accidental drowning, all eyes are now on whether the Assam government will revise its stand or continue the separate SIT probe into the case.
