The Dhurandhar juggernaut seems to be in no mood to slow down even after the theatrical run has ended after creating a box office havoc that lasted nearly two months post its release on December 5th. The Aditya Dhar directional is now creating a digital rampage after its OTT debut on Netflix two weeks ago.
According to reliable statistics available, the espionage thriller has clocked 7.6 Million digital views in the first weekend and emerged as the most viewed non-English film on the global platform. The chart also showed that the film turned out to be at No. 1 not just in India but also in Pakistan among Netflix’s Top 10 Movies lists.
Not stopping here, Dhurandhar continued its dominance during the second week as well as there is an uptick in the visitor count compared to the first week with more than 8 million views. In two weeks, the film has amassed close to 16 Million views and turned out be one of the smashing hits on digital platforms.
Compared to other recent pan-India blockbusters like Pushpa 2 and Kalki, Dhurandhar has secured more OTT views on the first two weeks by a long chalk. This is a stupendous achievement for a film which witnessed glorious box office run for over 50 days all over the country and overseas.
The tremendous response garnered by Dhurandhar for its digital release has busted the prevailing trade notion that films with long theatrical run tend to secure lukewarm reaction from moviegoers. Though Dhurandhar witnessed millions of footfalls during its theatrical run, the digital response has been equally stunning and record breaking.
Set in Lyari town, Dhurandhar revolves around covert intelligence operations against the backdrop of historical terror events, including the Kandahar plane hijack, the 2001 Parliament attack, and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
The sequel Dhurandhar – The Revenge is set to release in theatres on March 19th. There are massive expectations on the second installment and it is expected to take a thunderous start due to the high anticipation.
