The highly sensational death of Telugu actress Prathyusha, which shook the Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana a couple of decades back has reached the final legal standpoint.
The Supreme Court has delivered the final verdict on this case as the apex court dismissed the petition filed by culprit Siddhartha Reddy and ordered him to surrender within four weeks. His attempt to bypass the jail term imposed by the high court has been rejected by the Supreme Court.
In this case, the Supreme Court heard arguments from both sides in an elongated trial. Having completed the hearing in November last year, the Supreme Court reserved its judgment.
24 years after the murder which happened in 2002, today, the supreme court delivered the verdict, ordering Siddhartha Reddy to surrender at the police station. The judgement passed by the High Court will stand and Siddhartha Reddy will have to serve two years in prison.
Earlier, Hyderabad Metropolitan Sessions Court sentenced the accused, Siddhartha Reddy, to five years in prison.
When Siddhartha Reddy challenged this verdict in the High Court, the prison sentence was reduced to two years. On the other hand, Pratyusha’s mother, Sarojini, challenged the High Court verdict in the Supreme Court while Siddhartha Reddy also challenged in the Supreme Court seeking to quash the sentence.
In this incident dating back to 2002, Siddhartha Reddy stated that he and Pratyusha had attempted suicide by consuming pesticide, and that he survived after receiving treatment in the hospital.
Victim’s mother Sarojini accused Siddhartha Reddy of being the reason for her daughter’s suicide and today, the legal battle is finally concluded.
