Box Office Rollercoaster: Dhurandhar 2 Loses Steam?

Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar : The Revenge, which released on March 19 amid high expectations, has shattered numerous box office records and showcased the true potential of Bollywood cinema. The Aditya Dhar directional grossed close to 1400 Crores in 12 days and already emerged as one of the highest grossing Indian movies ever.

Surprisingly, the box office momentum has slowed down after the second weekend as the footfalls started to drop from the third Monday. While the first part picked up very well after the second weekend and performed steadily in all territories in the long run, the sequel appears to be losing steam during the same period due to lack of proper post release buzz in audiences.

For Dhurandhar, the positive reviews and public talk helped in improving the collections even after two weeks. But, there is no similar intensity for the sequel which is clearly evident from the performance on the weekdays. There is considerable drop in numbers on the third Monday and they are likely to witness further decline till the start of weekend.

Given the strong pre-release hype and the unanimous word of mouth, the sequel is expected to perform extremely well in other languages as well along with the Hindi version. But, that’s not happening for now. Much to the shock of trade circles, Dhurandhar 2 failed to gain as much traction as expected in South languages. Except Telugu version, the sequel didn’t find much attention in other states.

While blockbuster pan-India biggies from South India like Baahubali 2 and Pushpa 2 created a strong impact on Bollywood moviegoers and collected unbelievable revenues in Hindi regions, Dhurandhar 2 seems to have failed to repeat a similar feat in South despite generating huge anticipation prior to its release.

After the film took an earth shattering start in the first weekend, many believed that Dhurandhar 2 will easily surpass all time biggest grossers like Dangal and Baahubali 2 with the help of good collections from other languages. But, the Hindi numbers will alone need to contribute massively from now for Dhurandhar 2 to achieve these bigger milestones.

Dhurandhar 2 already turned out to be the biggest blockbuster in North America by outperforming Baahubali 2 in less than two weeks. But, there is still a long way to go to emerge as the highest grossing film of all time.
