The trailer of Raja Shivaji, helmed by Riteish Deshmukh, has generated decent buzz ahead of its May 1 release. Mounted as a historical drama, the film appears visually rich, with decent production design, impactful background score by Ajay–Atul, and a sincere attempt to bring the legacy of Shivaji Maharaj to the big screen.
At first glance, every aspect of the trailer looks fairly polished. The scale, costumes, and action blocks hint at a well-mounted project, while the emotional undertones suggest a story rooted in pride and valor.
Riteish, who has written, directed, and produced the film, appears to have invested deeply in the project, with Genelia D’Souza backing it as a producer in collaboration with production giant Jio Studios.
However, a section of viewers feel that Riteish Deshmukh has not fully embodied Shivaji Maharaj in the footage released so far.
While his effort is evident, the transformation and intensity expected from such an iconic role appear slightly lacking in parts. This has sparked debate on whether he will fully rise to the occasion in the final film.
That said, Bollywood audiences have historically embraced well-made historical dramas, even if the subject has been explored before. If Raja Shivaji manages to deliver an engaging narrative, it could still strike a strong chord at the box office. All eyes are now on whether Riteish can deliver a powerful performance when it matters most.
