Aditya Switches From 90’s Nostalgia to Gen Z Romance

Aditya Haasan, who earned appreciation for his nostalgic and feel-good storytelling with 90’s, now appears to be taking a completely different route with his upcoming film Epic. Starring Anand Deverakonda and Vaishnavi Chaitanya in lead roles, the project is said to be an extension of the 90’s web series, also featuring Vasuki and Sivaji.

Given his previous work, many expected Aditya to once again deliver a warm, family-friendly narrative with emotional depth. However, early impressions suggest a noticeable shift in tone.

The film seems to lean more towards a Gen Z love story, incorporating intense romance, bold dialogues, and a more contemporary portrayal of relationships. This change in approach signals the director’s intent to explore new storytelling spaces rather than staying confined to a familiar comfort zone.

While such experimentation can be refreshing, it also comes with its own challenges. The key question now is whether Aditya Haasan can convincingly blend his signature subtle storytelling style with the raw and modern dynamics of Gen Z relationships.

Striking the right balance between relatability and authenticity will be crucial. If executed well, the film could redefine his image as a filmmaker. If not, it risks alienating the very family audience that connected with his earlier work.

Coming to Anand and Vaishnavi, their chemistry this time feels distinctly different from their previous outing Baby, where they were seen in a school-time, early-20s love track. Now, with a Gen Z-driven, UK-based backdrop, their pairing appears more intense, as glimpsed in the teaser.
