The Telugu film industry is currently going through a tough phase, and everyone is openly acknowledging it. The irony is that a short-term exhibitor in a rural area is saying times have been tough, and a mega producer like Dil Raju is also publicly commenting on it.
Today, during a film’s promotional event, Dil Raju admitted that the film industry is currently in a bad phase, as everyone is facing problems pulling crowds to theatres.
On the other hand, director Sai Rajesh also commented that industry folks are resorting to marketing gimmicks to attract crowds, but when they arrive in theatres, all they see is poor, mediocre content.
Sai Rajesh also revealed that industry folks themselves will manipulate the ratings and reviews of films, as well as views and comments. In his opinion, the audience cannot distinguish between what is real and what is fake, and as a result, they have altogether stopped coming to watch films.
In reality, if we decode the reasons behind changes in audiences’ tastes and preferences, it will be a case study in itself.
Firstly, the quality of movies has gone to the toss. It’s been a while since a nice film has come to theatres that all sections of the audience have watched together.
The makers are not focusing on the story; they are only focusing on combinations, OTT deals, and other aspects, rather than staying true to the content. Moreover, they are prioritizing routine commercial content just to get instant traction at the ticket windows.
Back then, even small films had good stories and rooted content, but now the majority of films are made based on online trends and social media memes, which will not work at the box office. On top of that, the ticket prices are also stopping the families from catching the new films at theatres.
If the same situation continues, the worst is not far from us, where the theatrical business will completely die down, and people will start catching up on films at the comfort of their homes.
