The Only Option Left For Shankar?

For decades, director Shankar was considered the ultimate master of visual grandeur in South Indian cinema.

From massive sets to expensive action blocks, almost every Shankar film carried a larger than life appeal. But things appear very different now after back to back disasters like Game Changer and Indian 2.

The biggest issue now seems to be trust from producers. Shankar’s ambitious dream project Velpari, which was reportedly planned on a massive multi part scale with a huge budget, is struggling to move forward. The financial risks involved are simply too high in the current situation. Meanwhile, Indian 3 is also stuck with pending work and uncertainty surrounding its release plans.

Because of all this, Chennai film circles are now buzzing with one strong discussion. Shankar may finally be ready to move away from oversized budgets and grand visual extravagance, at least temporarily. Reports suggest he is now planning a fast paced action entertainer that can be completed within a controlled budget and shorter timeline.

Interestingly, this could actually be the smartest move for him right now. Instead of spending years on a risky mega project, Shankar appears to be focusing on proving himself again with solid storytelling and strong execution.

Industry talk suggests the new subject is more in the space of films like Kaithi or Vikram, where content and intensity drive the film more than lavish production costs.
