Advance booking for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey opened in India at 10:00 am on June 8, there’s been a sudden demand for the tickets. No one expected that the film would attract a big demand since it is a Hollywood film due for release only next month. Interestingly, the film’s ticket prices are going to touch 3000 rupees in one of the North Indian cities.
Universal Pictures has announced plans for only two shows, both on IMAX screens: one early morning and one at night or evening. Nolan’s last film, Oppenheimer, also attracted a big craze, but then there were no exorbitant prices for the film. In the recent past, we have seen this crazy demand only for Dhurandhar: The Revenge.
Pune will be the city to host a costly screening for the film. The film starts at around 1400 rupees and goes upto 3000 rupees, which is shocking. In Mumbai, the film’s ticket is priced affordably, at less than 1000 rupees.
Only at PVR Lower Parel, the rates are slightly higher, as the starting price is 700 rupees and it goes upto 1400 rupees. At most, the film’s ticket is available for 2000 rupees in the city.
Now, coming back to reality, the Indian audiences are always ready to embrace foreign movies. But at the same time, if these foreign films are sold at high prices, compared to our films, it will surely lead to a debate.
Having said that, a lot of genuine moviegoers will not be able to afford such prices even when they want to watch the film. Surely, this is not a healthy trend in Indian market and we have to see the outcome of it.
