Rayalaseema Slang Is Defining Character Arcs In Tollywood

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, most Telugu films had a Rayalaseema backdrop, and many of them ended up as smash hits. However, the faction genre became so overused that filmmakers gradually moved away from the slang and setting.

After a long gap, though, the Rayalaseema backdrop is making a comeback, and this time it has become a defining character trait for many protagonists. Going into details, Samantha’s blockbuster Maa Inti Bangaaram and Akhil’s recent hit Lenin prominently featured the Rayalaseema dialect.

The protagonists of both films delivered the slang effectively, and audiences lapped it up. Interestingly, this dialect will also be used extensively in Anil Ravipudi’s upcoming film featuring Venkatesh and Kalyan Ram.

The faction-based comedy is set against a Rayalaseema backdrop, and the makers are expected to create plenty of fun within this setting. Knowing Anil Ravipudi, he will likely use the dialect in a hilarious manner and generate solid comedy.

Whether in serious dramas or comedies, the Rayalaseema slang is making a strong comeback and has been adding significant weight to lead characters in recent films. It remains to be seen what kind of films will be made with this backdrop and dialect in the days to come.
