One of the most talked-about Hindi projects in recent years was Ashwatthama, featuring Shahid Kapoor in the lead role. The film generated huge buzz when it was announced, but it never went on floors, disappointing Shahid’s fans.
Now, producer Jackky Bhagnani has opened up about the reasons behind shelving the ambitious project. Speaking in an interview, Bhagnani revealed that there were multiple factors behind shelving the project, and one of them was the arrival of Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD.
Jacky stated that audiences do not judge a film based on how much money is spent on it; instead, they look for fresh and unique content. This clearly shows that the character Ashwatthama, played by Amitabh Bachchan in Kalki, had a major impact on Shahid’s film.
Bhagnani also adds that after the success of Kalki 2898 AD, it was important to reassess whether Ashwatthama could offer a distinctive cinematic experience for fans. Rather than rushing into production, the makers chose to shelve the film, he adds.
Fans are disappointed that Shahid Kapoor’s ambitious film could not take off, while others believe the decision was practical given the changing market. On the other hand, the shooting of Kalki 2 kicked off long ago, and Prabhas will very soon join the sets of the film.
