7 Dogs has recorded a shockingly low opening in India, with Day 1 collections estimated at under 10 lakh. The international action thriller stars Egyptian actors Karim Abdel Aziz and Ahmed Ezz in the lead, alongside Monica Bellucci and Giancarlo Esposito.
The film follows Interpol agent Khalid and former criminal Ghali as they join forces to take down the dangerous 7 Dogs crime syndicate. The gang is connected to a lethal new drug that threatens to spread across the region.
The film has been mounted on a large international scale and is directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, the duo behind Bad Boys for Life and Bad Boys: Ride or Die. The project also features a strong international ensemble.
For Indian audiences, Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt were among the biggest attractions. However, their appearances are relatively brief, with the two stars playing supporting cameo roles rather than leading the film. Their presence nevertheless generated considerable attention around the Indian release.
Yet, despite the reunion of Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt and the presence of several international stars, 7 Dogs has failed to translate that star power into theatrical footfalls. The sub Rs 10 lakh opening is particularly surprising given the scale of the project.
The film now needs a major turnaround over the weekend to show any improvement at the Indian box office. For a movie carrying Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt in its Indian promotional appeal, this extremely low opening is certainly a disappointing start.
