The Irumudi storm has completely taken over the Telugu box office, with Ravi Teja’s rampage turning the weekend into a festival for trade circles. While the blockbuster result was expected, the sheer intensity of the collections has surprised even industry observers. Yet, Suriya’s Vishwanath And Sons has managed to hold its ground.
Despite the Irumudi wave, Vishwanath And Sons is recording decent occupancies in A centres, particularly in Hyderabad. The strong advance bookings and continued audience interest are encouraging signs, especially considering the massive competition from Irumudi. It shows that the film has connected well with its target audience.
The film is also continuing its decent momentum in Tamil Nadu, although it still needs to collect more to reach a safe zone. The encouraging point is that there are no major releases until Toxic arrives on August 26. This gives Vishwanath And Sons enough breathing space to add more numbers and gradually reduce the losses in Tamil.
In the Telugu states, the film has already entered the profit zone and secured a Super Hit status. Producer Naga Vamsi’s decision to hold enough theatres for the second week is also helping the film maintain its presence. The content has reached the ground level, giving it a strong base even during the Irumudi wave.
The real test will begin from Monday, especially with Toxic arriving on the 26th. Irumudi is expected to remain strong in its second week, which could put pressure on Vishwanath And Sons. However, with the Telugu version already safe and the Tamil version having some time to improve, the film still has a chance to finish on a stronger note.
