Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja’s Irumudi has surprised many. Even trade pundits were quite shocked with its terrific opening and extraordinary first weekend numbers at the box-office. That’s not all. The real surprise came from the first Monday bookings.
Despite it being a normal working day the Monday bookings are surprisingly strong. Even without holiday or festive season advantage, Irumudi is showing solid strength at the Box Office.
Meanwhile, more screens are being added for Irumudi Monday matinee shows. This is something rarely seen and probably the first film to see such demand on Monday this year. Many trade analysts had expected a proper drop after the weekend, but Irumudi has proved those expectations wrong.
The response in B and C centres has been exceptional, especially in mass areas. This strong reception is giving the film a good chance of having a solid long run.
However, the real test for Irumudi will begin with the arrival of Toxic. As a big film, Yash’s Toxic is expected to take a major share of screens and audience attention. Naturally, Irumudi will face pressure in terms of screen count and show timings once Toxic releases.
At the same time, the strong Monday performance gives Irumudi an advantage. If the film continues to maintain its hold over the next few days, theatres may have a reason to retain more screens for it even after Toxic arrives.
So, there is no doubt that Irumudi has built a strong position for a long run. The only question is how much screen space it will retain after Toxic’s release. That will ultimately depend on the talk for Toxic and whether Irumudi continues to bring audiences to theatres.
