After facing one of the biggest setbacks of his career with Thug Life, director Mani Ratnam seems to be returning to the style that fans have loved for decades.
The glimpse of his upcoming film, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi in the lead roles, has created a fresh impression. Unlike the intense world of Thug Life, this film appears to be a breezy love story with the classic Mani Ratnam touch with eye-pleasing visuals coupled with AR Rahman’s background music.
This time, Mani Ratnam has chosen West Bengal and its culture as the backdrop. The story is set in Kolkata, and the city’s local trains also seem to play an important role in the film. This reminds fans of the way trains and urban life were beautifully used in many of Mani Ratnam’s old films.
The glimpse looks fresh while still carrying the vintage Mani Ratnam flavour. The visuals, setting and romantic mood have already created curiosity among movie lovers.
Along with the glimpse, the makers have announced that the title of the film will be unveiled on September 7. For now, the glimpse suggests that Vintage Mani Ratnam may be back.
