Mirzapur: The Movie is proving that an OTT show can successfully make the jump to the big screen. Despite carrying an A certificate, a lengthy runtime, and content that includes violence and nudity, the film has managed to attract audiences in large numbers.
Even though reviews have been mixed, the craze surrounding characters like Kaleen Bhaiya, Guddu Pandit and Munna Bhaiya has helped the film register impressive collections across the country.
The movie is now heading towards a massive 100 crore opening weekend. However, the story is completely different in the Telugu market. The film has failed to create any significant impact in Telugu states, with collections remaining very poor.
This comes as a surprise because the Mirzapur web series enjoys a decent fan following among the Telugu audience. Many trade observers feel that the poor promotional planning is one of the main reasons behind the weak response.
Apart from a press meet, the team did very little to build awareness in the Telugu states. The biggest missed opportunity was the lack of focus on Munna Bhaiya’s character, one of the most loved personalities from the franchise.
While North India is celebrating the return of the Mirzapur universe on the big screen, the Telugu market has ended as a huge flop. Not many even know that such a film has come out in the first place and all this is because of poor planning.
