When Suriya Can, Why Can’t Telugu Stars?

Suriya Sivakumar is riding high with back-to-back hits like Karuppu and Viswanath & Sons. While audiences are still celebrating these two films, Suriya has dropped the title teaser for his next film. Directed by Jithu Madhavan, the film Scene is set for release in November.

This means Suriya has a third release in the span of six months this year. For a Tier-1 hero, an achievement like this means a positive sign for the industry. So, taking a look at the scenario, the audiences in Telugu are expecting our stars to also follow what Suriya is doing.

Suriya’s Karuppu was released in the month of May, and then Viswanath & Sons came to theatres in August. In November, Scene will be ready. By the beginning of next year, Suriya will have another release, and he plans for 2-3 releases next year as well. Not just focusing on the quantity, Suriya is also focusing on content quality. While Karuppu and VAS have become hits, we have to see the result of Scene.

After Suriya’s Scene title glimpse was released, everyone were surprised that the film releases in November. The Telugu audience are now wondering as to why our actors take years of time even for regular films. If not the top stars, at least the mid range heroes must take this approach forward instead of sticking to one release an year.

Only when films get released non-stop, the audiences will continue to visit theatres. Otherwise, they will be used to watching films on OTT, impacting the footfalls at theatres. Only when the top stars release more films in a less time, that will help the industry’s survival for a long run.
