Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi is working on back-to-back movies to regain his glory and success. In the process, he has done a film titled Baththa, a gangster comedy set against the 80s backdrop. The film was released today, and most surprisingly, it opened to positive reviews from one and all.
The critics are raving about the film, and some are even giving good ratings. The netizens on social media are also spreading positive word of mouth about the film. The response is currently very positive, and this could mark Vijay’s comeback at the box office.
Vijay Sethupathi plays a feared local gangster named Baththa in this movie. The actor’s tough underworld life shifts when an eight-year-old boy accidentally locks him inside a deserted school restroom. Rather than a standard gangster movie, the movie reportedly functions as a grounded emotional drama focusing on an unexpected bond and the softer side of a hardened criminal. Both the performances of Vijay and the small boy Sabari are said to be a major highlight of the movie.
If the film’s response remains the same, there are fair chances of the film getting dubbed into Telugu. After Maharaja, there was no proper success for Vijay and his releases this year so far have been big disappointments at the box office. Thalaivan Thalaivii, Ace and Gandhi Talks did not work at all. If Baththa does the magic, it will help Vijay’s upcoming films to get good deals in the trade.
Directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan, the film also features Lijomol Jose. Sai Abhyankkar’s music also added a lot of soul to the film and his contribution also helped the film gain a good response at the box office. Murad Khetani, Atlee, Priya Atlee, Alok Jain, and Ajit Andhare are the producers of the film. The film is currently playing in Hyderabad as well.
