Why Vijay’s Film Struggling Despite Positive Talk?

Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi’s latest Tamil film, Baththa, opened to a unanimous positive response from critics and audiences. Social media buzzed with positive word of mouth from many moviegoers. Many praised the performances of both Vijay and child artist Sabari.

It is a gangster comedy, a genre that works well with Tamil audiences. Vijay, who faced back-to-back flops recently, finally secured a success with the movie. But shockingly, the positive buzz hasn’t translated into strong revenue.

Despite receiving unanimous decent-to-positive reviews, Vijay Sethupathi’s Baththa has yet to find strong numbers at the box office. Even though the collection doubled on day 2, it still hasn’t crossed the 10cr mark, which isn’t impressive. As a connective film for the Tamil audience, it remains to be seen whether they will embrace it and deliver box-office numbers.

Usually, Tamil audiences are receptive to stories set against a rural backdrop, with enough drama and comedy. Vijay Sethupathi factor also brings a lot of people to theatres, especially in rural Tamil Nadu. But for some reason, the film isn’t meeting expectations at the ticket windows, raising doubts about its long-term performance.

Directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan, Lijomol Jose plays the female lead. Sai Abhyankkar is the film’s music director. Murad Khetani, Atlee, Priya Atlee, Alok Jain, and Ajit Andhare bankroll the film.
