Superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is taking an interesting route ahead of its release on October 15. After repeatedly dropping plans for a traditional audio launch, the team has now opted for a different strategy, an exclusive interview featuring the entire cast. While this move may look like a simple promotional decision, it has triggered a political debate on social media.
A section of social media users are linking the decision to Tamil Nadu politics and the equation between Superstar Rajinikanth, Sun Pictures and TVK chief and CM Vijay. Some are speculating that Vijay, given his political position and past rivalries involving the personalities and groups concerned, may not want to give permission for a massive public event involving Rajinikanth and Sun Pictures.
Meanwhile, there is also a buzz that Vijay is unlikely to take such a decision if it could create unnecessary negative sentiment among the public. More importantly, Jailer 2 director Nelson Dilipkumar shares a close equation with Vijay. Nelson himself has spoken in the past about Vijay’s support being crucial to his career and his journey towards Jailer. Amidst this backdrop, the Jailer 2 team seems to have played it smart.
Instead of taking the risk of a massive public audio launch, the team has gone for an indoor event and positioned it as an “Jailer 2 Special Interview”. It is nothing but the speeches of the entire cast and crew of Jailer 2. It gives the film a major promotional platform without turning the event into a potentially controversial public spectacle.
The Jailer 2 special interview will be aired on Sun TV on October 11, from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM, a massive three-hour prime-time slot. Again, many commented it as a “Closed Door Pre-Release Event”.
With this, the debate between Rajini’s fans vs Vijay’s fans continues on social media. The bigger question now is whether this was purely a strategic promotional decision of Jailer 2 team or whether politics also played a role behind the scenes.
