‘I will give my reaction once I figure out what kind of reactions I should have’- Tanushree Dutta has now reacted to the death of veteran actor Nana Patekar, years after her allegations against him became one of the most prominent controversies of India’s Me Too movement.
Patekar passed away at the age of 75 on October 8, after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa. Hospital sources said doctors tried to revive the actor for around 45 minutes before he was declared dead.
After the news spread, people quickly turned their attention to Dutta, who had accused Patekar of sexual harassment during the 2008 shooting of Horn ‘Ok’ Pleassss. When the Me Too movement reached India in 2018, she brought the allegations back into spotlight, becoming one of its early voices. Patekar denied the allegations.
Sharing an Instagram story, Dutta acknowledged that she had heard about Patekar’s death but said she was not immediately ready to give a definitive reaction. “I have heard the news,” Dutta said in the video.
She explained that she was scheduled to travel to Lucknow for a work event. She also anticipated that the media would seek her reaction to Patekar’s death.
Her response has since sparked discussion online, particularly because of the complicated history between the two actors. While some social media users criticised Dutta for addressing the matter on the day of Patekar’s death, others argued that she should not be expected to respond to the death of someone she had accused of sexually harassing her in any particular way.
The case was investigated by Mumbai Police, which filed a B-summary closure report in 2019. According to reports, the police did not find sufficient evidence to substantiate Dutta’s allegations.
