Vijay Deverakonda has put considerable effort into transforming himself for his role in Ranabaali. Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, the film is set against a historical backdrop and aims to present its characters and world with a realistic approach.
Vijay revealed that he spent two to three months practising the Rayalaseema dialect and dialogues to ensure authenticity in his performance. Having studied in Puttaparthi for ten years, he was somewhat familiar with the dialect, but he trained extensively to get it right for the film.
“We designed the action sequences in our film based on the violence that existed during that period. The actual events were even more violent, but we designed the sequences according to what the story required. People did not sit down and discuss their differences the way we do today. Conflicts often became matters of life and death. This is not a story that can be told softly, nor is it a world that can be portrayed gently. We have not included action scenes merely for the sake of action,” Vijay explained.
He also revealed that the film has a runtime of two hours and fifty minutes only. According to Vijay, director Rahul was particular about the way Ranabaali should look, speak and behave. Unlike characters who communicate very little, Ranabaali speaks forcefully, reflecting the nature of warriors from that era.
Vijay also worked hard on horse riding for the role, adding another layer to his preparation. The actor believes the director’s mass-oriented and realistic approach will help audiences connect with the film’s world.
