Rajamouli Not Satisfied With Indian Epics On Screen Till Now

Director SS Rajamouli has described Varanasi as the most ambitious film of his career, explaining that he wants to bring the grandeur of Indian epics to the big screen like never before.

In a recent interview, the filmmaker said he had watched several films based on Indian epics but was never fully satisfied with their presentation. According to him, the writing, execution, and scale of these films did not always match the greatness of the original epics.

Rajamouli now sees Varanasi as an opportunity to address that gap. He wants to recreate the scale, grandeur, and larger-than-life emotions associated with epic characters while presenting them in a way that connects with modern audiences.

The director believes this is the biggest challenge he has set for himself, making the project particularly special. Known for delivering visually spectacular films such as Baahubali and RRR, Rajamouli has built a reputation for telling larger-than-life stories that appeal to audiences across languages.

With Varanasi, expectations are naturally high, as the filmmaker is attempting to push the boundaries of Indian cinema once again. The film stars Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Prithviraj Sukumaran in key roles.

Rajamouli’s latest comments have further raised curiosity about the project. Whether Varanasi will achieve the epic scale and emotional depth he envisions remains to be seen. Varanasi releases on April 7, 2026.
