Lakshmi Garu Deserves More Appreciation

Making a film about a popular artist without relying on a major star is never an easy task. Garividi Lakshmi is one such brave attempt that deserves appreciation for bringing the life of a lesser-known cultural icon to the big screen.

Reddy Vijaya Lakshmi, popularly known as Garividi Lakshmi, was a well-known Burra Katha artist whose voice reached audiences across Uttarandhra through audio cassettes and live performances. While many people may remember her songs, not everyone knows about her personal struggles.

Director Gowri Naidu deserves credit for choosing this story and presenting her journey to audiences honestly. The film works better when it explores Lakshmi’s difficult days than when it focuses on her rise to fame.

The pre-climax and the final 30 minutes stand out as the film’s strongest portions. They are handled well and deliver an emotional impact, making the ending more effective.

Anandhi deserves special appreciation for her performance. Choosing an actress without major star value for such a central role was a bold decision, and she delivers a solid performance that supports the film’s intentions.

The film may have its flaws, and its box-office prospects are a separate matter. However, in an era dominated by star-driven commercial entertainers, Garividi Lakshmi is a commendable attempt to tell a meaningful story rooted in regional culture.
