Javed Akhtar Defends Rashmika With A Wrong Identity

Rashmika Mandanna is one of the star heroines of the Indian film industry. She is known as the National Crush. Currently, the actress is enjoying the success of her last film, Ranabaali. She also appeared on Koffee with Karan with her husband, Vijay Deverakonda.

Although their participation and conversations garnered a lot of attention, she spoke about the trolls she faced for being a South Indian. Now, Veteran Lyricist and Screenplay Writer, Javed Akhtar extended her support to Rashmika regarding trolls about Rashmika’s accent.

First and foremost, Rashmika faces a lot of criticism and trolling for her accent. She has appeared in multiple Hindi films, and since her debut, Rashmika has been criticized for her South Indian accent. Rashmika has always wanted to work in different industries and speak different languages. This is why, despite being a Kannadiga, she went on to explore films in other languages like Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi.

“Those who have any problem with the pronunciation of Tamil actor Rashmika should be given a few lines of Tamil, which is the oldest spoken language in the world, and let’s see how well they pronounce Tamil. This fake and baseless linguistic superiority is not acceptable,” wrote Javid Akhtar on X.

During the KfK show, Rashmika said, “They said I had a South Indian accent, but I am from the South of India. So I have an accent. It’s unreasonable to think otherwise.”

While Javed Akhtar’s intention was to defend Rashmika against accent-based trolling, his tweet has unintentionally opened another debate by identifying her as a Tamil actress. Some sections of the Kannada audience have already been critical of Rashmika for various reasons, and this latest mix-up could add another layer to the controversy.
