The annual World Happiness Index has vividly shown that India, along with many countries are experiencing anxiety and depressing owing to the unprecedented pandemic in the last year. Coronavirus has claimed more than 2.6 million people around the globe and yet the survey shows some of the happiest countries irrespective of the prevailing situation.
Finland has been named the happiest country in the world and this is the fourth consecutive time Finland grabbed the top position. It is followed by Iceland, Denmark, Switzerland and the Netherlands. However, India is the fourth-least happy country in the world, according to the latest results of the World Happiness Report.
It is distressing to learn that India is placed only before three countries – Jordan, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. This past year has definitely taken a toll and just like many, Indians also experienced helplessness, fear, bringing vast uncertainties in their lives such as unemployment and disturbance in day-to-day routines.
On the other hand, the United States shot up to 4 positions, now at 14 in terms of happiest country, Earlier, the US was in 18th place. The survey is said to be based on the ranking on data from the Gallup World Poll. However, the pandemic did not allow the researchers to do face-to-face interviews in a number of countries. Therefore, they took the relationship between well-being and Covid-19 into consideration and declared the ranks of the countries.
