TMC hoists Mithun Chakraborty for Rajya Sabha

The disco dancer of Bollywood, Mithun Chakraborty, is all set to enter Parliament, through courtesy of West Bengal CM Mamta Bannerjee.

In her facebook account West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee declared on her Facebook account on Saturday, that "In our state, five Rajya Sabha members will be elected this time. One of these seats will be given to Mithun Chakraborty who is a well-known film personality. He has devoted his life to the cause of cultural and social activities with great success."He is an asset of not only West Bengal, but also of the entire country. We are proud to nominate him, she said."

Mithun Chakraborty who is popular for his Disco Dancer, is an actor, singer, producer, writer, social worker, and entrepreneur and has won three National Film Awards. He has also done several comic cameos in Bollywood and has become a house hold name in the country. Dance India Dance and Big Boss Bangla reality shows are some of his recent success hits.

Chakraborty, 61, burst on to the scene in 1976 with Mrigaya by Mrinal Sen. He bagged the National Award for best actor. In 1982, he triggered a dancing craze in India with Disco Dancer. The star of many superhits, the actor is a big draw these days on a reality dance show on television. He also sinks his teeth every now and then into meaty parts such as the one in Mani Ratnam's Guru.
