Will Epic Pass ‘A’ Certificate Test?

Anand Deverakonda has had his share of setbacks, but Baby changed the game for him. The film gave him the much-needed breakthrough, while Vaishnavi Chaitanya emerged as a bankable heroine. Now, the successful Baby pair is back together with Epic. But this time, things are quite different.

Unlike Baby, the intense and emotionally charged love story, Epic seems to be a matured romantic entertainer, set against a London backdrop. The film is directed by Aditya Hasan, who impressed audiences with the 90s series. But picking the Baby pair again and attempting a bold, mature love story comes with its own set of challenges.

And now, there is the tougher challenge, Epic got an A certificate from the Censor Board. Since the film features a mid-range hero and heroine attempting a full on entertainer and targeting the youth audience. could find the A certificate a tougher challenge at the box office.

An A certificate might be common for films for star heroes and they may pull it off with ease despite having scenes of violence or bold scenes. Star heroes and star directors have managed to overcome the certification and deliver strong box-office results.

Interestingly, Baby also featured intimate and bold moments but received a U/A certificate and went on to become a sensational success, giving both Anand and Vaishnavi a major career boost. This time, however, the same youth combination faces the A-certificate test.

That puts the spotlight on director Aditya Hasan. Sandeep Reddy Vanga had made the magic with Arjun Reddy which was a A certificate film. That turned the game changer for Vijay Deverakonda and Sandeep Reddy. The film made Vijay Deverakonda a star.

Can Epic overcome the A certificate tag, connect with its target audience and recreate the magic of Baby? With the film arriving on September 11, the big question is simple, Will Epic pass the test at the box office with its A-certificate?
