Elon Musk has taken another dig at Mukesh Ambani over the delay in launching Starlink’s internet services in India. In a sarcastic post on X, Musk addressed PM Narendra Modi as “Prime Minister Ambani” and questioned whether the Reliance Industries chairman has too much influence over the country’s telecom sector.
Musk’s latest remarks come amid a growing row over Starlink’s entry into India. The SpaceX-owned satellite internet company is still waiting for final clearances to begin commercial services.
Musk argues that Starlink could help people in remote villages where internet access remains a challenge. Better connectivity could help children access online education and allow small businesses to reach customers across the world.
However, the Indian government has rejected claims that Starlink is being treated unfairly. Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said India does not allow monopolies and that satellite internet operators are undergoing the required approval process.
The issue has now taken a clear political turn, with Rahul Gandhi joining the debate. After Musk questioned whether Ambani was the real boss of India, Rahul responded, “Welcome to India, Elon. Wait till you discover the other guy.” Musk thanked Rahul and said the situation was troubling.
Social media is divided over the controversy. While some users have backed Musk and questioned the delay in Starlink’s entry, others have criticised him for targeting Indian businesses and questioned his claims. Rahul Gandhi’s response has added another political angle, with the Opposition using the issue to raise questions about the relationship between big business and the Modi government.
Meanwhile, the government maintains that Starlink and other satellite internet operators must meet India’s security and regulatory requirements before launching services. The debate now goes beyond internet connectivity, raising questions about competition, corporate influence and whether foreign companies are getting a fair chance in India’s growing telecom market.
