Trump’s $1000 Self-Deportation Offer: Will It Work?

After assuming power, US President Donald Trump has been making some big decisions in every field. Trump has been serious about illegal immigrants and launched a deportation program to send them out of the country. Now, his government launched another program, allowing illegal immigrants to self-deportation.

The government announced that it will pay $1000 to undocumented immigrants who voluntarily come forward to go back to their respective countries. All they need to do is download the Self-Deportation Assistance CBP Home app, fill in the required information, and submit it to the CBP Home App. Their travel costs will also be covered by the government, and they will be deprioritised for arrest and deportation. But the question is whether illegal immigrants will voluntarily come forward and sign up for this program or not.

In an official statement, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, wrote, “If you are here illegally, self-deportation is the best, safest and most cost-effective way to leave the United States to avoid arrest. DHS is now offering illegal aliens financial travel assistance and a stipend to return to their home country through the CBP Home App. This is the safest option for our law enforcement, aliens and is a 70% savings for US taxpayers. Download the CBP Home App TODAY and self-deport.”

Last week, Immigration and Customs Enforcement said that within 100 days of Trump’s arrival at the White House, around 66000 illegal immigrants had been deported.

Meanwhile, people on social media came up with divided opinions on this self-deportation scheme. Many netizens opined that despite the government offering cash and travel costs, illegal immigrants might not show interest in this scheme, fearing any hidden agendas of the government. Considering Trump’s drastic decisions, they may fear voluntarily signing up for this program. Anyway, we have to wait for a few more days to know how well this program works in deporting illegal immigrants.
