In yet another tragedy, Prashant Srikumar (44), an Indian-origin man, died of suspected cardiac arrest in Edmonton, Canada, after waiting for nearly eight hours for treatment, despite reaching the hospital.
On December 22, Srikumar complained of chest pain while discharging his duties and was shifted to Grey Nuns Community Hospital in Edmonton, Canada. He was checked for various health parameters and made to sit in the waiting room. However, doctors did not attend to him in the waiting room. Neglected for hours, Srikumar’s health condition deteriorated, leading to his death.
Reports stated that those accompanying Srikumar informed his father about his health condition. Soon he rushed to the hospital and Srikumar reportedly told his father that he was not able to bear the pain.
On being alerted by his father, the staff took ECG of Srikumar and informed him that there is no emergency. He was administered some medicine and made to sit for more than eight hours.
Meanwhile, his blood pressure began increasing and finally, when he was called for treatment, he collapsed. After 10 seconds of going to the doctor, Srikumar looked at him, put his hand on chest and collapsed.
Nurses nearby tried to resuscitate him but it was too late. Srikumar is survived by wife, and three children.
Reportedly, the hospital did not reveal the details of Srikumar’s death. The medical examiner’s office is probing the case.
