A heated debate has broken out in the US Senate over the cost of America’s military operations involving Iran. The discussion intensified after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth revealed the money spent on the conflict and the number of American troops who lost their lives.
According to Hegseth, the US has spent nearly $38 billion (₹3.67 lakh crore) on the military campaign so far. He also confirmed that 17 American soldiers have been killed during the operations.
The figures triggered sharp criticism from Senate Democrats, who accused the Trump administration of dragging the country into a prolonged conflict without a clear long term plan. They questioned the rising financial burden and demanded greater accountability over the government’s military strategy.
The controversy has also spread to President Donald Trump’s request for an additional $95 billion emergency defense package to support military operations. Democrats have strongly opposed the proposal, arguing that more spending is not the answer without a defined objective.
Despite the opposition, Republicans are expected to push the funding package through the Senate using their majority. The issue has now turned into a major political battle, with both parties divided over the future of America’s military involvement and the growing cost of the conflict.
