New Zealand Changes Parent Visa Rules: What It Means for Indians

New Zealand is changing its Parent Resident Visa system from October 5 2026. The change could be important for Indians living in New Zealand who want to bring their parents there.

90% Will Follow the Queue

Under the new system 90% of places will be given based on when the application was submitted. This means people who have been waiting longer will get priority.

10% Through Ballot

The remaining 10% of places will still be selected through a ballot. So people who are not near the front of the queue will still have a chance.

Good News for Existing Applicants

Existing Expressions of Interest will no longer expire. This means applicants will not have to submit a new EOI again just because the old one has expired.

2,500 Places Every Year

New Zealand will still have a limit of 2,500 Parent Resident Visas each year. So the new system does not mean every applicant will automatically get a visa.
