Indian Couple’s Adventurous Escape From Nepal Floods

The disastrous flash floods in Nepal wiped out several families in just a matter of few seconds. But, a few stories of survival that are coming out have now become a major talking point in the public.

One such story of dramatic escape belongs to an Indian origin couple from USA named Anjana Raja and her partner Pattabiraman Venkatesan, who displayed great sense of quick reaction and saved themselves.

They were travelling by bus during their first pilgrimage to Tibet when the disaster started to unfold. The couple saw a huge wall of water, mud and rocks rushing towards them, wasting no time they realised that they had only seconds to escape and jumped from the bus before rushing towards higher ground.

The couple climbed a steep and slippery hillside while floodwaters swept through the area below them. Raja said she saw a police post being washed away and people being carried away by the water. With the help of a local guide, they finally reached a safer area at the top of the hill.

The couple spent the night in a goat shed with local residents and other tourists. They were airlifted to safety the next day. Venkatesan later described their survival as nothing short of a miracle. Everyone travelling on their tour bus also survived.

The calamity has already taken away lives of more than 600 people and left many homeless. 3000 are yet to still traceable and rescue operations are going on at a rapid pace.
