Telangana Man Trapped In Dubai Jail, Unable To Pay 39L Fine

In a rather unfortunate situation, a Telangana migrant worker named Aegurla Mallesham from Jagtial district has been languishing in Dubai prison for more than six months after he was convicted of offence relating to illegal entry without proper Visa documents.

Mallesham went to Muscat in Oman back in 2018 in search of work to support his poor family. However, he later entered UAE through illegal border crossing without proper visa documents or passport clearances and continued staying there as an unregistered worker for nearly eight years.

In March this year, Dubai border officials arrested him during targeted field inspections and presented him before the local criminal court. The court sentenced Mallesham to six months in jail and imposed a heavy penalty fine of 150,000 AED, which equals around 39 lakh Indian rupees.

However, due to his poor financial status, he was unable to pay the fine and secure his release after the jail term. The judicial verdict stated that he must pay the fine amount completely before authorities can process his official deportation orders.

His family is also facing extreme financial trouble back home in their native village. Local leaders recently met government officials in Hyderabad to submit urgent appeal petitions seeking official intervention to help the victim.

The government has also started the process to use the diplomatic channels and find a legal solution for bringing him back to the country.
