Indian-Origin Woman Spoils Trump’s Nobel Prize Dreams

Just a while ago, the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced that the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to 85 year old jurist Navanethem Navi Pillay. She received the prestigious global honor for her lifelong dedication and strong efforts to promote world peace, human rights, and international law.

Navi Pillay is a South African judge of Indian Tamil origin. Born into a poor family in Durban, she crossed many hurdles to become a renowned human rights lawyer. She served as a high ranking UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and as a judge at the International Criminal Court.

Her biggest career achievements came when she served on the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, where she set historic international law precedents by establishing sexual violence and rapes as acts of genocide. Her relentless pursuit of justice earned her widespread respect from international legal groups.

The announcement of this coveted award has garnered significant attention as US President Donald Trump repeatedly pitched himself as deserving person to win it because of his diplomatic efforts which he feels have stopped several wars including the one between India and Pakistan.

The committee considered a total of 287 candidates but selected Pillay due to her long legacy in international justice rather than political leaders. She will receive the award on December 10th in Oslo, Norway.
